About Us
Although these girls began their involvment with oriental dance in a very small town, isolated hours
away from the dance community at large, they brought to the table an energy and commitment that is
still the groups' driving force today.
Each woman has contributed a personal dance background to the group (jazz, ballet, modern), in
addition to taking as many workshops and intensives as possible. They study with many of today's
most recognized dancers from around the world, the most influential, without a doubt, being
Cassandra Shore from Minneapolis. Studying with her at Oasis Dance Camp on Vashon Island
every year for the past decade has kept them constantly challenging themselves and continually
inspired.
All of this background comes together in the troupe melting pot that has simmered away to become
the sweetly complex reduction that is Shula Azhar today. Competing for the first time in the 2007
"Miss Bellydance U.S.A." contest, and winning Third Place- People's Choice- Troupe
Category, has only renewed their focus and given them a new mission for the future.
Dancing and performing together has
allowed Shula Azhar the
opportunities and experiences
necessary to hone their skills and to
put on an outstanding and
professional show anywhere, anytime.
They obviously love what they do and
THAT is highly contagious.
